Description

Cocoa, walnut, and subtle notes of tobacco leaves take center stage in the cup. The profile is full and smooth, with very low acidity and a pleasantly long, dry finish.
Both the growing location and processing contribute to this character. The coffee comes from the Chikmagalur region in Karnataka, a mountainous part of India considered the birthplace of coffee cultivation there. Legend has it that Baba Budan brought the first coffee seeds from Yemen here, establishing coffee growing in India. Today, Arabica with an exceptionally classic character grows on the slopes of the Bababudangiri range, amid the remarkable natural richness of the Western Ghats.

Chinennahally Estate has been in the same family for more than 70 years. The coffee trees grow beneath a two-tier canopy of native trees, and only ripe cherries are selected during harvest. After washed processing and sun-drying, the beans retain a clean, elegant profile in which chocolate and nutty notes take the lead.

We chose this coffee because it’s an excellent example of classic Indian Arabica. No excessive fruitiness, but plenty of depth, a velvety body, and a character that both espresso lovers and those looking for a mellow everyday cup will appreciate. This coffee comes from the place where the story of coffee in India began—and we think you can taste that tradition in it.

Indiaaaaa(n), it DOES even matter…
