Description

This coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around COPECAFE R.L., an umbrella cooperative that supports local cooperatives located within the department of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. A small cooperative called Nuevo Bulaj with 14 members, cultivate, harvest and process coffee with micro-mills on farms that average 3 acres near the community of Magnolia Miramar within the municipality of Colomba. The Nuevo Bulaj cooperative works with COPECAFE to gain access to technical support for the best agricultural practices. COPECAFE is investing in the production of organic fertilizers aimed at improving the productivity and health of coffee farms. Members of COPECAFE also participate in a family garden and a bee keeping program aimed at diversifying sources of income within the community.
