Description

We recommend this lot for filter coffee.

  • Origin: Worka, Yirgacheffe
  • Varieties: Indigenous
  • Producer: Small-scale producers
  • Notes: Nectarine, Elderflower, Honey
  • Process: Natural

Banko Gotiti is a town in the Gedeb district, in the Gedeo Zone, where Yirgacheffe is located. The local cooperative was founded in 2012, independently of Worka, a larger organization, and has around 300 members who grow different traditional Ethiopian coffee varieties.

In Ethiopia, many producers work small plots and also grow other crops. During the harvest, they usually take coffee cherries to a nearby washing station, where they are weighed, sorted, and processed. Because cherries from many producers are mixed into daily lots, it is difficult to know exactly who produced the coffee in each lot. Even so, efforts are made to buy from the same stations every year through export partners.

In this region, farmers usually do not have access to fertilizers or pesticides. For natural coffees, the cherries are sorted, cleaned, and dried on raised beds for 8–25 days, depending on the weather.
