Why Arabica Salvador SHG?

El Salvador is the smallest nation in Central America, but despite its small size, it produces exceptional coffees of consistently high quality. The history of coffee in El Salvador is inseparable from the development of the nation itself. The first plantations were established in the late 1880s, and coffee quickly replaced indigo as the main export crop.

Most production was owned by a small elite with ties to the government, who held large plantations. This had both positive and negative consequences for the country's development. On the one hand, plantation owners invested heavily in internal infrastructure, such as roads that were strategically important to the coffee industry. On the other hand, most of society did not benefit from the wealth generated.

The economy's and government's dependence on coffee exports led to many crises in the history of the “coffee republic.” The last civil war led to changes in the structure of coffee farming. Today, around 95% of producers in the country grow coffee on plots smaller than 20 hectares, and no one may own more than 245 hectares.

95% of the coffee produced in El Salvador is shade-grown. The farmers' passion and extensive knowledge, combined with modern processing methods, help maintain the high quality of coffee grown in the country.

Salvador SHG coffee is beautifully balanced, with a mellow yet distinctive, rich aroma. It has gentle fruity notes, complemented by the sweet flavors of chocolate and honey. It works well with traditional brewing methods and also brings out its rich flavor in alternatives such as the Chemex or AeroPress.

SHG stands for Strictly High Grown and refers to coffees grown at high altitudes. These beans mature more slowly, resulting in a richer flavor profile. High-altitude plantations are less susceptible to disease and pests, so pesticides are not used.
