Description
Our then purchasing manager, Angel Barrera, inspired the name La Mochilita when he set out several times to explore the region, always accompanied by his backpack. The name means “little backpack” in Spanish.
To ensure the traceability of our coffee, we decided to have La Mochilita processed at a single mill to achieve a much more consistent profile. La Mochilita is grown on limestone soils typical of the high-altitude Huehuetenango region, which gives it its complexity and acidity.
While most producers in the region grow coffee on between 1 and 10 hectares, the larger size of our partners’ plots means we don’t have to blend lots from multiple producers. This allows us to control every stage of preparing this washed coffee.
