Gakenke Washing Station, located in Burundi’s Kayanza Province, works with 1,780 registered smallholders spread across 22 nearby hills. Most families grow around 250 coffee plants, mainly Red Bourbon, and hand-pick the cherries at peak ripeness.

At the station, the cherries are floated, hand-sorted, and pulped within six hours of delivery. The parchment is then slowly dried on raised beds for two to three weeks, with continuous sorting throughout the process. Each lot is kept separate by station, day, and quality, ensuring full traceability.
