Tanzania Songwe opens a new chapter in our selection. We wanted our first coffee from this country to be a thoughtful choice—a bean that clearly showcases Tanzania’s character.

This is a coffee with a fresh, expressive profile. Rhubarb brings lively acidity, gooseberry adds a slightly green fruitiness, and herbal notes give it an elegant, tea-like character. Its strength lies not in intense sweetness, but in the precision and clarity of its flavor.

Behind the quality of this coffee is Itumpi AMCOS—a producers’ cooperative that has been operating since the 1970s and now has 160 active members. One important step in its development was starting to produce fully washed coffees in 2019, which made it possible to increase control over processing and better bring out the character of local varieties. The AMCOS model plays an important role in Tanzania’s coffee sector: by working together, small-scale producers gain access to infrastructure, knowledge, and markets, helping them improve the quality and value of their coffee.

We love this coffee because it begins our adventure with Tanzania in the best possible way: it captures the country’s character in the cup and celebrates the people who are building the future of the local coffee sector, step by step.
