Description

Claro Espresso Blend – the espresso you get right every time

Some coffees are for exploring, and some are for relying on. Claro Espresso Blend belongs in the second category: it’s a blend created in our roastery with a single purpose—to help you make a good espresso every time, no matter how experienced you are with your machine.

It doesn’t aim to surprise you with exotic notes or aromas you’ve never encountered before. Instead, it gives you exactly what you expect from a classic espresso: a dense body, generous crema, and sweet chocolate notes that linger pleasantly. In the morning, when you don’t have time for dialing in and experimenting, it’s the coffee that won’t let you down.

The blend is made from four carefully selected origins, all washed—each contributing something specific to the final profile: a dense, creamy base, chocolate sweetness, and balance with very low, barely perceptible acidity. This combination is exactly what makes the blend forgiving to extract: even if your grind or dose isn’t perfect, the result is still good.

Claro Espresso Blend is freshly roasted in Romania at our artisan roastery in an omni-roast style. It’s available as whole beans or ground to order, depending on your machine.

What makes it right for espresso:

  • Dense, creamy body with generous, persistent crema
  • Clear, consistent sweet chocolate notes
  • Very low, barely perceptible acidity
  • Stable, forgiving extraction—good results even without fine-tuning
  • Consistent flavor from one cup to the next
  • Excellent in milk drinks, too (cappuccino, latte, flat white)

What is a blend, and why does it matter here?

Unlike a single-origin coffee, which comes from one country or region and shows you the distinct character of that place, a blend combines multiple origins to deliberately create a particular profile.

With single-origin coffees, the goal is to showcase what makes a place unique—that’s why an Ethiopia Yirgacheffe has floral notes, while a Brazil Santos is chocolatey and mild. With an espresso blend, the goal is different: consistency, body, and reliable extraction.

Espresso is the most demanding brewing method. High pressure, a short brew time, and a small amount of water amplify any imbalance: a coffee that’s too acidic becomes sharp, while one that’s too light produces poor crema. An espresso blend addresses this from the outset through the selection of its components.

Specifications:

  • Product type: Single-origin coffee blend
  • Composition: Four carefully selected origins
  • Processing: All components are washed
  • Primary use: Espresso and espresso-based drinks
  • Roast profile: Omni-roast (Claro Cafe)

Why all four origins are washed

Washed processing produces a clear, clean cup with a predictable profile and no fermented or wild notes. In an espresso blend, where consistency is the main goal, washed components are the logical choice: they behave predictably during extraction and combine harmoniously, without competing with each other in the cup.

Aroma and flavor profile

Claro Espresso Blend has a classic, straightforward profile, designed to be enjoyable without fuss.

The dominant note is chocolate—sweet, warm, and lingering, exactly the character most people associate with a good espresso. The body is dense and creamy, with a clear presence on the palate, while the acidity is very low, almost imperceptible—nothing sharp, nothing distracting.

The result in the cup: an intense, rounded, comforting shot with beautiful crema and a pleasantly sweet finish.

Tasting specifications:

  • Dominant note: Chocolate, sweet and lingering
  • Acidity: Very low, barely perceptible
  • Body: Dense, creamy
  • Crema: Generous, persistent
  • Finish: Slightly sweet, rounded
  • Character: Classic, intense, comforting

How to brew it

Espresso—the primary use

This blend was designed for espresso, where it delivers its best results. Use these starting points for dialing it in:

  • Dose: 18–20g (double basket)
  • Yield: 36–40g in the cup (approximately a 1:2 ratio)
  • Time: 25–30 seconds
  • Temperature: 92–93°C

If the shot runs too quickly and tastes weak, grind finer. If it runs too slowly and tastes bitter, grind coarser. The blend is forgiving, so you’ll get to a good result quickly.

Milk drinks

The chocolate sweetness and dense body make this blend excellent for cappuccinos, lattes, and flat whites. The flavors remain present after adding milk without getting diluted—often, you won’t even need sugar.

Automatic espresso machines

It works very well in automatic machines. Its low acidity and consistent body mean good, reliable results, even with the grinder’s factory settings.

Moka pot and cezve

Although it’s designed for pressure extraction, it also works well in a moka pot, producing an intense, chocolatey coffee. In a cezve, it makes a dense, slightly sweet cup if you prefer the traditional style.

Frequently asked questions about Claro Espresso Blend

How long does it stay fresh after roasting, and how should I store it?

Freshly roasted coffee is at its best in the first 30–60 days after roasting. Keep it in its original bag with the degassing valve, sealed tightly, at room temperature and away from light, heat, and moisture. Avoid the refrigerator. For espresso in particular, freshly ground beans make a noticeable difference in crema quality.

Which origins are in the blend?

The blend includes four carefully selected origins, all washed, chosen for their specific contributions to the final profile: body and creaminess, chocolate sweetness, and balance with minimal acidity. The exact composition may vary depending on lot availability, but the resulting profile stays consistent—that’s the whole point of a blend.

Why choose a blend instead of a single-origin coffee?

It depends on what you’re looking for. A single-origin coffee shows you the character of a particular place—it’s an exploration. An espresso blend is designed for reliability: stable extraction, consistent flavor, and good crema every time. If you drink espresso daily and don’t want to think about dialing it in, a blend is the practical choice. If you want to discover new flavors, go for a single-origin coffee.

Is it suitable for a beginner who just got an espresso machine?

Yes, it’s probably the best choice in the lineup for that. It’s forgiving when it comes to grinding and dosing errors, produces beautiful crema with little effort, and delivers consistent results. It lets you learn your machine without frustration instead of struggling with a demanding coffee.

Does it work for drip or French press?

It can be brewed that way, but that’s not its natural use. Its dense profile and very low acidity are designed for pressure brewing—for drip, it will make a decent but flat cup without much complexity. For drip, a single-origin coffee with more acidity and distinct notes (Guatemala SHB or Ethiopia Yirgacheffe) will be much more interesting.

How does it compare with Claro’s single-origin coffees?

It’s simpler and more straightforward than any of them—and that’s intentional. Brazil Santos is the closest in profile (chocolatey, low acidity), but the blend is specifically designed for espresso, with an emphasis on body and crema. Compared with Guatemala, Colombia, or Ethiopia, the blend gives up complexity in favor of consistency.
