On the label is a Rose-breasted Grosbeak—a migratory bird that summers on St. Joseph Island and winters as far south as Guatemala—painted by Heather Hoffmann to illustrate a global connection.

Description
We chose a rose-breasted grosbeak for our label because they summer here on St. Joseph Island, and will fly as far south as Guatemala (or even further!), to winter. Now, whether or not this rose-breasted grosbeak will actually visit a coffee tree in Guatemala, we will never know. But, the fact is that it’s possible, and it’s another reason why it’s so important to think globally about the organic movement.
This particular rose-breasted grosbeak visited us at our sunroom window during the spring of 2013. The grass had started turning green, and we had one of those heavy spring snowfalls. We were joking that this little fellow was wishing he was inside sitting on our avocado plant. Maybe it was reminding him of Guatemala where it was a whole lot warmer.
