The Legend of the Elwetritsch

In the Palatinate, they say that once, when a mighty thunderstorm swept across the Haardtrand, chickens, geese, and ducks fled in fright into the depths of the Palatinate Forest—and couldn’t find their way back. There, among the trees, they encountered elves, goblins, and imps. These unusual encounters are said to have given rise to the Elwetritsche: shy, chicken-like creatures with long beaks, pointed ears, and a mischievous look all their own.

To this day, Neustadt an der Weinstraße is considered the unofficial capital of the Elwetritsche, as evidenced by the famous Elwetritschenbrunnen in the middle of town. If you tiptoe very quietly through the forest on a moonless night, you may sometimes hear a soft “Tritsch-Tritsch”—and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of one of these shy creatures.

Like the Elwetritsch, this coffee is a true oddball—you simply have to try it. And there’s a little humorous surprise waiting on the back of the package for everyone who appreciates that kind of thing ;)
