Description

Sulawesi Kalossi – Single Origin

Deep in the heart of Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province, coffee is more than a crop—it’s a tradition rooted in both land and culture. Here, in the misty central mountains, the Torajan people still live in villages where homes resemble boats, surrounded by rice paddies, sheer rock cliffs, and clouds that cling to the peaks. It is in this dramatic setting, at elevations reaching over 2,000 meters, that some of Indonesia’s most prized coffee is grown.

Sulawesi Kalossi carries a mystique. It’s the same origin once made famous as the coffee eaten by the civet cat and sold as kopi luwak for hundreds of dollars per pound—but here, you can enjoy it in its purest form, without the animal processing. Farmers working small plots (often less than 3 acres each) carefully hand-pick ripe cherries and process them at community micro-mills. Following traditional Indonesian methods, the beans are wet-hulled (Giling Basah), a technique that imparts the coffee’s signature bluish-green hue and hallmark Indonesian flavor profile.

We roast our Sulawesi Kalossi to a smooth Medium (Viennese/Full City), where its richness unfolds with remarkable complexity. Expect a heavy, syrupy body paired with low acidity, layered with flavors of vanilla, cocoa, and a touch of cedar spice. It’s bold yet refined, exotic yet comforting—a cup that tells the story of both its land and its people.

And, as always, it’s roasted only after you order and shipped within 24 hours—so this unique Indonesian treasure arrives as fresh, vibrant, and alive as the region it comes from.
