Description

Navio Espresso

A 2024 great taste award winner, Navio takes its name from the Portuguese word for ship, as an homage to the global coffee trade. The word for this blend is ‘balance’. Brazilian beans give a rich, chocolatey body, which is backed up by a Costa Rican bringing a bright, fruity acidity and a biscuity sweetness.

What ties the blend up is a bean from Papua New Guinea which rounds the flavour off by offering more body and syrupy, dried fruit sweetness. This results in an exceptionally well-rounded coffee, with a rich, chocolate biscuit sweetness and a syrupy, toffee apple acidity. There isn’t much bitterness in the cup at all.

Brewing Fundamentals

Brew this as an espresso at a simple 1:2, coffee to espresso weight ratio. With 18 grams of coffee in expect 37-40 grams out in over 25 seconds.

Nearer 25 seconds you’ll find a brighter, apple jam and biscuits flavour, but if you push it closer to and beyond 30 seconds, you’ll find the sweetness of a chocolate and fruit digestive.

Those of you who don’t usually drink espresso on its own want to give this a try, this might just be the coffee that wins you over.
