Description

Nb: this coffee will launch on Monday 9th November. Orders placed before this date will ship on 9th November. We will ship orders placed along with other products on 9th November.

Our limited edition Navidad Decaf comes from Finca Santa Lucia in Santa María de Dota, Tarrazú, Costa Rica. It’s a single-varietal Red Catuai coffee, decaffeinated using the CO₂ process. Expect a complex, well-rounded cup with notes of pear, cherry, cocoa nibs and liquorice.

Flavour Description: Glace Cherry, Cocoa-Dusted Truffle, Liquorice Spice.

Producer: Mayra Solis.

Farm: Finca Santa Lucia.

Region: Santa María de Dota, Tarrazú.

Varietal: Red Catuai.

Process: CO₂ decaffeination.

The Process

The CO₂ decaffeination process gently removes caffeine while helping to preserve the coffee’s natural flavour and delicate aromas. The result is a smooth, full-flavoured cup without the caffeine.

The Producers

The Solis family has been farming coffee for generations. In 2020–21, they established their own micro-mill, Alto El Vapor. Previously, they sold their coffee as cherries through a cooperative; setting up the mill gave them more opportunity to process and sell their coffee themselves.

The family’s work has been shaped by their involvement with Bean Voyage. Delfina, Mayra’s second daughter, became a youth trainer with the organisation, while Mayra and her youngest daughter, Dalila, took part in its training programme. There, they learned about sustainable growing practices and ways to improve coffee quality, and they are now applying that knowledge on their farm and at the mill.

Alto El Vapor takes its name from the fog that settles at high elevations. It’s a fitting name for this family-run micro-mill in Santa María de Dota, where the farm reaches elevations of up to 2,000 metres.
