Description

We're excited to share this coffee from Cerro La Bruja, a remote coffee-growing area near San Vicente Yogondoy in Oaxaca, Mexico. We taste comforting notes of milk chocolate and wafer cookies!

Cerro La Bruja—Spanish for "Hill of the Witch"—sits between 1,500 and 1,700 meters above sea level in the Sierra Sur mountains. Reaching the community from Oaxaca takes about five hours by road, but getting to the farms themselves often requires another two to three hours on foot or by mule. During harvest, many producers temporarily move to their farms and carry coffee back to town over multiple trips.
Yogondoy means "River of Bees" in Zapotec, and many producers keep beehives alongside their coffee. The region is known for its dense forests, remarkable biodiversity, and nearly exclusive cultivation of Pluma, a local Typica mutation that has thrived here for generations, growing beneath native shade trees like avocado and cuil.
