The Drip Assist is a tool designed for both the novice Home Barista and the professional to improve the consistency of coffee extraction with the V60. Designed by the World Barista Champion Pete Licata , it allows you to evenly distribute the water during the preparation of the V60.
Description
One of the fundamental variables in the preparation of coffee with percolation methods such as the V60 is certainly the strength and movement of the water flow on the coffee panel during extraction. Even if the kettles with precision spouts come to the barista’s aid and allow you to control this variable, they do not guarantee a constant flow rate and flow equal to that of automatic machines.
With Drip Assist this variable is almost zeroed. In fact, it will be sufficient to pour the water inside one of the two concentric circles that make up the instrument and the holes present will sprinkle all the ground in a homogeneous way.
If we pour into the inner circle the holes will distribute the water in the center with a flow rate of 8gr / s while if we pour the smaller holes into the outer circle they will distribute the water more slowly with a flow rate of 3gr / s.
For this reason, our advice is to use the inner circle, with a greater flow rate, for the “blooming” pre-infusion phase and pour all the remaining water for extraction into the outer part, perhaps pouring a little from time to time. of water in the central circle in order to give greater turbulence to the extraction.
