Coffee is more than a drink. It gives us, coffee lovers, an energy boost or a moment of peace. However, the story behind coffee is much longer: coffee is the end result of a long chain made up of countless hard-working people. 

In that sense, those who make the coffee are the last to touch the coffee before the consumer gets his cup of coffee. They are therefore much more than baristas, as we call them today. Their role goes beyond simply preparing and serving coffee. They are experts with a big responsibility: to transform the coffee beans into a delicious drink without destroying the integrity of the chain.

A barista is also a coffee expert who would like anyone who knows nothing about it to learn something about the world and the work behind a cup of coffee.

Dan Dunne is a licensed trainer with the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and spends most of his time training new and experienced baristas. Learning how to transform coffee with integrity is vital to him. Preparing coffee to perfection requires craftsmanship and science. The work requires creativity, attention to detail and accuracy. As in most industries, new insights are constantly emerging in the coffee world , which is why experts are constantly sharing and exchanging knowledge.

The first step on this learning path is a change in how we view coffee. We should strive to stay true to the product, with respect for every link in the chain, and stop drinking cheap commercial coffee. We need to use coffee beans that are more durable and have refined nuances.
