  Our latest Limited Release coffee comes from the Horizon Supreme wet mill in southern Rwanda. Most coffee produced in Rwanda comes from multiple small-hold farmers that form cooperatives and then sell their coffee to wet mills for processing, drying, and exporting. Coffee is produced across Rwanda, but large concentrations of farmers operate off Lake Kivu and southern Rwanda due to high altitudes, consistent rainfall and those all important volcanic soils that allow such high-quality cherries to be produced.

Horizon was bought in 2018 by Leo Fidele Ndagijimana, the previous owner hadn’t been able to process coffee for many years but with Leo’s experience managing Wet-mills in Western Rwanda, he has completely turned it around.

Rwandan’s have a very distinct flavour profile, if you’re well acquainted with African coffee, a Rwandan can always be picked out on the table mainly due to its uniquely clean mouthfeel and body. Often, much like a good washed Kenyan, a Rwandan has very warming notes, something between an aged Bourbon and tropical fruit juice; this coffee sits in perfect equilibrium balancing cranberry and red currant acidity with a beautifully juicy, perfectly rounded body with a creamy almost yoghurt like mouthfeel.
