Description
In May 1988, 20 coffee farmers joined the Mejillones cooperative with the declared aim of producing organic coffee of particularly high quality. The achievement of this goal was promoted, among other things, by internal competitions.
The farmers have their own wetmills on their plantations (depulping, i.e. removing the pulp from the coffee cherries and washing) and jointly use the drying mill (removing the pergamino skin from the coffee beans and sorting) of the cooperative. The variety Arabica Typica is characterized by a very good aroma quality. For this you have to accept a low yield per hectare and a susceptibility to disease for the coffee rust. Only a small part of the Mejillones coffee beans, therefore, consists of Typica beans.
The taste quality is impressive: aromas of peanuts and roasted almonds in combination with milk chocolate and notes of tobacco. In addition, delicate hints of green herbs.
