Coffee found me in the early to mid 1990's in Sydney. I had just closed a coffee shop in Enmore (where I did not even own a grinder) when my coffee supplier Andrew Gross offered me a job in his coffee roastery in Bondi Junction.

I was smitten with the whole process within a few weeks and somehow the feeling that coffee gives me, and not just after drinking it, has never left me.

Back in those days coffee was just starting to become a thing to a few people in the hospitality industry. They got the difference between fresh roasted beans and that stuff you got with your weekly food order. Now it would appear that every man, woman, anyone who identifies as something else and their dog can make coffee??? Not so! There are many people taking advice from people who have been in the industry for a couple of minutes who do not understand that the consumer hasn't caught up with the, what appear to be, daily changes to the how we should be drinking coffee. I will discuss BARISTAS in another blog sometime.

Sorry I lost my place there...

From Sydney I moved to Byron Bay to follow my passion for music which culminated in a performance at the Byron Bay Easter Arts Classic then I got back into coffee. Working with Frank and Annie at the Byron Bay Coffee Company several award winning blends were produced in 1998 and 1999.

Family duties necessitated a move to Lake Macquarie where Real Coffee was founded in 2000. Running courses at Hunter Community College, WEA and Hamilton TAFE. Taking up residence at Honeysuckle Markets, opening a coffee shop in Bunnings Maitland and then in 2006 opening up our first espresso bar in Maitland - more specifically Lorn (North Maitland).

Now we are focussing on our roasting (River Roast) and setting up this online shop and resource - Real Coffee Hardware!

If there is something that you would like to ask or would like me to cover in this blog then leave a message.
