Our values

The history of Lavazza is that of a company that for over 120 years has pursued a corporate vision in which the passion for work, for the product, and for the territory in which it operates are central. Values present in Lavazza's DNA since its origin in 1895 and carried on by four generations of entrepreneurs.

Each member of the family involved in the company has contributed to making it grow, transforming it into what it is now, keeping faith with the values inherited from Luigi Lavazza: passion and innovation.

"It's about doing business with the heart" - Emilio Lavazza said.

In this way we have been able to grow the company over time: our entrepreneurial path is an example of sustainability in the broadest sense of the term, a value built and shared with all the people we met, starting with our collaborators and the territories in which we are present.

It all began when Luigi Lavazza, in 1895, opened the first Lavazza Drogheria via San Tommaso, Turin. We imagine him surrounded by bags of coffee of different origins, taken in the creation of the blends.

Luigi Lavazza was a man full of initiative, inventiveness, and passion for his work. He discovered the different origins and characteristics of this plant, coffee, and studied the art of blending to satisfy the tastes of customers, creating blends.

Also thanks to his trip to Brazil he was able to see, in an era of great changes, all the potential of the drink. The Lavazza coffees we drink today are the result of his idea of combining coffees from different parts of the world.

The grocery store moves to new and larger spaces via San Tommaso 10. On the shelves, there are groceries and everyday products. The business is thriving and price lists are being mailed.

Lavazza celebrates its 120 anniversary and takes a leap towards the future: it takes the first espresso into space.

Lavazza has always looked to the future. In 2004, Thierry Le Gouès' calendar imagined coffee in space, ten years later this dream was realized by truly bringing Italian espresso to the International Space Station.

Lavazza, Argotec, and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) develop ISSpresso, the first coffee machine in space. Lavazza invests in research into the Arabica coffee genome.

The 2015 calendar, created with Slow Food and signed by Steve McCurry, is a photographic journey into the stories of daily heroism of the Earth Defenders. 12 portraits of women and men who every day with courage, pride, and dedication defend their projects in Africa.
