Coffees from around the world each have distinct flavor characteristics based on several factors, such as climate, altitude, specific coffee tree, etc. Because of our strict quality standards, J.Brooks uses only high-grade Arabica. Green coffee is graded for its quality based on a number of factors that can affect the taste of your coffee.
- Specialty grade is the highest grade of coffee, awarded to less than 7% of the world’s supply. Also known as “fancy” or “gourmet” coffee, this coffee is the best of the best.
- Premium grade is the next highest level of quality, comprised of only a few more percent of the world's supply. While many coffees claim to be “premium,” only a few offer the flavor of a true premium grade coffee.
- Conventional grade is your average coffee—a vast category below these 2 categories, including a range of coffees that can be graded from good to poor quality.
J. Brooks uses only premium and specialty grade coffee. As a result, we pay premium prices for our raw green coffee, far higher than conventional grade coffees found in a typical grocery store or office coffee.
Roasts
Single origin roasts are simply coffees from one country of origin (Brasilian, Costa Rican, etc.). They can be roasted to any level based on that particular bean's performance. Some perform well at all 3 roast levels, and some only really shine at one roast level. Currently, Gallant, Starlight, Costa Rica, Urban Joe, Brasil, Ethiopia, Organic Peru, Clarion, our Hospitality HUB roast, and Colombian are the single origin roasts offered at J. Brooks.
Blends are made of 2 or more coffees that complement each other – they “play well together” – so that the resulting flavor is unique & superior to the flavor of either component individually.
A single coffee bean contains 850 flavor compounds—this means that each single origin coffee will have a taste unlike any other. In a blend, the possibilities for different flavors are practically endless. No food item in the world boasts so many flavor possibilities in a single unit, and we believe that with so many options, there’s something for everyone.
