Huila has a wealth of knowledgeable coffee farmers, and in conjunction with its subtropical forests, high elevations, and microclimate diversity, it’s no surprise that it’s well known for producing top microlots. There’s a diverse array of coffee producing communities, and this coffee comes from eight farms run by Aurelio Alba Ríos and his seven brothers in Timanco, San Agustín.

Aurelío and brothers all farm on family land that they inherited from their grandparents. Between the eight of them, they grow coffee on a total of 8 hectares. For their natural processed coffee, the freshly picked cherries are fermented for approximately 12 hours before drying on raised beds for 8-15 days. The coffee is then exported by InConexus, a specialty service provider and relationship management company that works directly with growers in seven of Colombia’s departments. InConexus manages local purchasing hubs throughout those departments, where they buy parchment or dried naturals directly from growers. The coffees go through a rigorous quality assessment process, and pricing is tied to cup score. Once assessed, the coffees delivered are blended under micro-brands, such as Bonanza.

This is a lively coffee that has bright strawberry notes at first sip, a fluffy body that reminds us of taffy, and a smooth finishing note of bittersweet chocolate. This is a great coffee if you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth!
