Our story was written by pirates

The story began many years ago when, early in the seventeenth century, the first coffee arrived in Europe on a ship that unloaded its precious cargo in Livorno. It was a pirate ship and the coffee had been plundered in Turkey, where it was already a daily pleasure.

In 1895, brothers Antonio and Luigi Meschini began their first business: a small shop selling spices, spirits and coffee from Latin America and Yemen.

The coffee they roasted and blended with passion and expertise was distributed to the city’s most popular coffee shops. One of them was the Bar Roma, for which they created a special blend in 1926. Its ingredients have remained almost identical for nearly a century and it continues to be one of the company’s best-loved products today.

    Certified Quality

The shop has become a business, the people have become expertise and know-how, and the trade has become international, but the passion has remained the same pure, authentic passion of our forebears.

    PHILOSOPHY

We have the immense privilege of doing a job we have been passionate about for five generations. It is a passion that drives us to search firsthand for the world’s finest coffees, in their places of origin, traveling both to great estates and the small plots cultivated by so many small local producers, striving to find the perfect coffee and share it with the whole world.

    MISSION

    THE SEARCH FOR QUALITY

Every coffee is unique, like the land on which it grows.

Mild and full-bodied from Lagoa do Morro in Brazil; smooth and round from San Luis in Salvador; elegant and fragrant from Sidamo in Ethiopia; acidic and aromatic from Guatemala.

What drives us to travel is our love of knowledge. It is our desire to learn to recognize the finest varieties, to judge when the coffee cherries are perfectly ripe and to see with our own eyes how much care is taken over the wet and dry processes.

It is not a desire for adventure, but an inner need.

The desire to find out everything there is to know about coffee, and to transform this knowledge into absolute quality.
