Description
Without a shadow of a doubt, Siphon is one of the most spectacular and fascinating methods of extracting coffee.
Designed in 1800, the instrument has only come back into fashion in recent years thanks to the specialty coffee shops of the " third wave ". It has thus become a real cult object for coffee lovers from all over the world.
This charming version is inspired by the wine sommeliers. Its shape is reminiscent of a decanter, perfect for enchanting your customers in the cafeteria by preparing them, with magic, a very good coffee.
The Siphon is composed of: an alcohol stove, a glass decanter with a rubber band that allows you to serve the coffee once prepared without burning, a glass element where the infusion takes place, and a metal filter equipped with the Venturi valve which allows the water to rise to the top without reaching the boiling temperature.
HOW DOES COFFEE EXTRACTION WORK?
- Attach the filter to the upper glass attachment
- Add the coffee grounds to the upper container. The standard quantity is 10 g
- Fill the lower pan with cold or hot water up to the 5 cup mark
- Turn on the alcohol lamp and place it under the center of the lower container ( be very careful when moving the alcohol lamp if it is on. Also, make sure that the lamp flame does not get wider than the lower container. The center of the wick should be about 3 mm from the lamp opening )
- While waiting for the water to boil, insert the upper bowl so that it rests diagonally
- Once the water has been brought to a boil, move the upper container to an upright position. It is recommended that you use one hand to hold the lower bowl steady when inserting the upper bowl
- When the water in the lower container rises to the upper one, use the spoon provided to gently mix the contents in the upper bowl.
- Heat for 40-60 seconds
- Since the lower container will be nearly empty, be very careful not to overheat it
- Then, remove the alcohol lamp from under the holder, attach the lid to extinguish the flame, and wait for the coffee to naturally drip from the top to the bottom
- When the coffee has completely dripped into the lower bowl, remove the upper bowl by carefully tilting it back and forth
- Be sure to firmly support the lower bowl with one hand and place the upper bowl on the bowl lid/holder
- Remove and gently tilt the top container, as the glass parts may collide
- Pour into a cup but be careful not to spill the entire contents of the container, as the decanter-shaped design is meant to filter out scattered coffee particles
- Enjoy!
With this version with a unique design you will find two different filters: one in metal for a fuller cup and one in the fabric that allows you to have a cleaner drink. However, be careful to wash the cloth filter included in the package after each use.
What coffee do you get? It definitely depends a lot on the type of filtering we use. In principle, the siphon gives us a cup with a greater body than that of a V60, but without the possible sediments that can be present with a French Press.
