With 777 Mayan farmers holding small plots on remote mountainsides in the Chiapan highlands, Yachil Xojobal Chu’lchan (“new light in the sky” in Tzeltal) exports over 130 tons of high-quality coffee each year, though recent yields have been diminished by the impacts of la Roya. A defining characteristic of Yachil is their progressive, political position of solidarity with the Zapatista movement, struggling for autonomy and respect for indigenous rights. Partners since: 2006
